NAAA Certified / USPAP Endorsed Aircraft Appraisals
An appraisal writen by Aeromantia Inc. is an impartial opinion of the value of an aircraft,
prepared by experts who know all the factors which make up the
current behavior of the used aircraft market. It is an opinion of
value based upon experience and repeated analysis of these factors.
It is an opinion of value which can be substantiated and justified.
It is an opinion of value made by certified, recognized,
professional aircraft appraisers.
FOR THE BUYER: The appraisal is an
impartial, professional opinion as to the value of the particular
aircraft being purchased. The appraisal report is a thorough
description and inventory of the aircraft that verifies the major
selling points for the buyer and financing entity. Further, the
appraisal can assist in expediting the sale of the aircraft because
the buyer and seller know the fair market value and relative
condition of the aircraft through the independent appraisal.
FOR THE SELLER: The appraisal
offers the confidence of knowing the general condition and current
fair market value of the aircraft being sold as seen through the
eyes of an independent third party. An appraisal is a great selling
tool because it gives a potential buyer a solid "feel" for the
aircraft in the words of the objective evaluator. After reading the certified appraisal report, the
potential buyer will have more confidence in the condition and
appearance of that aircraft than they would another aircraft where
all that is available is the owner's description.
FOR THE FINANCER: An appraisal
documents the value and general
condition of the aircraft. The appraisal also supports the bank's
collateral position in the aircraft loan by verifying that the
aircraft is what it is said to be. Any banker who does
self-evaluations without any manner of verifying the collateral
exists, or that the aircraft is equipped as represented, is putting
his bank at risk for a major loss should the client default. There
is no reason to accept a risk of that magnitude when Aeromantia's
certified appraisers can detail the value and general condition
of the aircraft for you.
FOR THE INSURER: An appraisal
written by Aeromantia can help determine replacement
values associated with new hull insurance policy applications.
Aircraft appraisals may also be used to verify damage claims
resulting from fire, hail, windstorms, accidents, and other
disasters by providing evidence of an aircraft's condition,
installed equipment and fair market value prior to the claim.
FOR THE ESTATE ATTORNEY: An
appraisal written by Aeromantia provides an expert opinion
of the value of an aircraft as a data-point when evaluating tax
assessments, capital gains, and other taxes. The appraisal can also
provide the fair market value for an aircraft that is part of an
estate.
FOR THE DONOR:
The appraisal is
an impartial, professional opinion as to the value of the particular
aircraft being donated to charity. The fair market value of your
aircraft cannot be determined by a charity; the Tax Agencies
considers that to be a "conflict of interest". A charity's tax
receipt is, however, proof that you made the donation. The
aircraft's fair market value has to be determined by an independent
certified appraiser.
Types of Aircraft Appraisals
DESKTOP APPRAISAL:
A desktop appraisal is one which does not include any inspection of
the aircraft or review of its maintenance records. It is based on
the assumed aircraft condition and maintenance status or information
provided to the appraiser or from the appraiser's own database. A
desktop appraisal would normally provide a value for a mid-time,
mid-life aircraft.
EXTENDED DESKTOP APPRAISAL: An extended desktop
appraisal is one which is still characterized by the absence of any
on-site inspection of the aircraft or its maintenance records, but
does include consideration of maintenance status information that is
provided to the appraiser from the client, aircraft operator, or in
case of a second opinion, possibly from another appraiser's report.
The extended desktop appraisal would normally provide a value that
includes adjustments to account for the actual maintenance and
modification status of the aircraft.
FULL APPRAISAL: A full appraisal is one that
includes an inspection of the aircraft and its maintenance records.
This inspection is aimed solely at determining the overall condition
of the aircraft and records to support the value opinion of the
appraiser, and would not, for example, include opening of inspection
panels on the aircraft. A full appraisal would normally provide a
value that includes adjustments to account for the actual
maintenance and modification status of the aircraft, and other
adjustments to reflect the findings of the inspection of the
aircraft and its records.
COMPREHENSIVE APPRAISAL:
A comprehensive appraisal
is one that includes a detailed inspection of the aircraft and
records. Sufficient detail is required, for example, to insure that
the records are in sufficiently good order to allow for
re-registration of the aircraft in a different country.
FINANCIAL APPRAISAL: A financial appraisal is one
that determines the value of an aircraft to an investor based upon
the incoming earning potential from its lease and residual value. A
financial appraisal may be done in conjunction with either desktop
appraisal, full appraisal, or comprehensive appraisal.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much will an appraisal cost?
Fees will vary depending on the type of aircraft, its year, make
and model, and the length of time involved in completing
analyses of all relevant data.
How much time will an appraisal take?
The client must allow sufficient time for the appraiser to do a
thorough job. The appraiser may spend a short time actually
inspecting the aircraft, but will spend considerable time
researching data. The Certificate of Appraisal and Inspection
Data Sheet Analysis of the appraisal is issued after the
physical inspection of the aircraft has been completed.
What's the difference between NAAA Appraisal vs. Bluebook
/ Vref?
Aircraft prices guides such as the Aircraft Bluebook and Vref
are published, marketed, and distributed by book publishers. The
publishers do not appraise aircraft, rather gather data by
sending questionnaires to their subscribers every 3 months to
generate their database. It is important to note that the
questionnaires do not request information regarding: aircraft
damage history, make and model of all avionics installed,
physical condition of the airframe and equipment, maintenance
inspection status of the aircraft, airworthiness directive
status, prop TSO, or engine overhaul type (field overhaul or
factory new limits overhaul or new engine), and other important
factors.
An NAAA aircraft appraisal takes all the facts about the
aircraft to obtain an opinion of the value of that aircraft. A
detailed examination of the airframe exterior, paint, engines,
props, interior cabin, instrumentation, avionics, and all
relative systems is performed. A careful review of the aircraft
documentation, log books, associated modification status, and
maintenance status is performed. A computer analysis is
performed using the NAAA extensive database to determine
relevant value data and adjustments are made based on the
results of the inspections.
